Resources

Below are links to other web sites that I have found to be useful, and they may be of interest to you as well. The internet is a very rich resource of information, but it is sometimes not easy to find what you may be looking for. See especially the last category where there are a number of links to free electronic books. I will be updating this page as I discover new resources, so you may want to check back from time to time.

Desiring God is a ministry of John Piper, Pastor for Preaching at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, conference speaker, and author of over 30 books, including The Pleasures of God, God's Passion for His Glory, and the book title that became the name of this ministry, Desiring God. The web site is a treasury of sermons, articles, books, etc.

          International Institute for Religious Freedom

          Jonathan Edwards Center
The Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University is a treasure-trove of the writings of Jonathan Edwards. He is considered to be, by some, the most important philosopher/theologian ever produced by the United States. The Center not only has the greatest collection of Edwards' writings, but has the ability to search those writings for words, phrases, titles, Scripture, etc.

          Ligonier Ministries

          Modern Reformation

          Monergism
Monergism is a great online resource of articles and information. On their "About Us" page, the first goal listed is "To equip Christians in the truth by making available the finest classic articles and resources of historic orthodoxy. This is done in the hope that the church will embrace, and recover the true Biblical doctrines of the historic faith." In case you are interested, from Wikipedia (February 7, 2012): Monergism describes the position in Christian theology of those who believe that God, through the Holy Spirit, works to bring about effectually the salvation of individuals through spiritual regeneration without cooperation from the individual. Monergism is most often associated with Calvinism (like Presbyterians and Dutch Reformed) and its doctrine of irresistible grace and in particular with historic doctrinal differences between Calvinism on the one hand and Arminianism on the other.

Scientific Evidence for the Existence of God
This is a vimeo/Veritas video lecture by astrophysicist Michael Strauss, given apparently in 2002 at Stanford University. While it does include evidence for the existence of God, it also includes evidence for intelligent design. He makes the case that the big bang theory for the origin of the universe is supported by the evidence, and that developments now support that time itself began at the big bang, not just space, matter, and energy. That means that we cannot speak about before the big bang, because there wasn't any before, at least not in this dimension. Sounds like Genesis 1:1 doesn't it! He stresses in his talk that he is basing his conclusions on true science and not speculations. He quotes from agnostic and atheistic scientists almost exclusively to establish his conclusions. He claims that the results are not only reasonable but unavoidable. The video lecture itself is some 38 minutes long, followed by another 38 minutes or so of questions and answers.

The Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics
As the name implies, this center for Christian apologetics is located at Oxford University in England. As part of a university, it offers educational opportunities in Christian apologetics. It offers weekend training programs, an MTh program (Masters in Applied Theology), etc. Also, for those who qualify, it offers doctoral fellowships in the area of philosophy. Scholars in the center include Alister McGrath, Ravi Zacharias, John Lennox, and Os Guinness. Unfortunately, there are no apologetics articles, etc. directly on this web site. However, one can find articles, etc. for individuals, such as John Lennox, for example, by clicking on his web link from the center web site.

          Together for the Gospel
This web site is a resource of presentations made at the biennial conference, Together for the Gospel. The conference is intended for pastors and church leaders, but the presentations may well be of much wider interest. This conference began in 2006, and has met in 2008, 2010, 2012, and in 2014 since. Most of the main presentations are in high quality video, and include speakers such as Ligon Duncan, Al Mohler, Mark Dever, John MacArthur, John Piper, Kevin DeYoung, etc.

          White Horse Inn

          World Evangelical Alliance

Web Sites Critical of Evolution:

          David Berlinski
Berlinski is probably an agnostic, but he wishes not to be labeled. He is of Jewish heritage, but does not practice that faith. His web site is included here because he is one of the most outspoken, and entertaining, critics of Darwinian evolution, and of atheistism, that I know of.

          Dissent From Darwinism
This web site primarily gives a list of scientists, mathematicians, and engineers who hold a doctorate in their field who have signed the following statement: "We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged." The list includes Michael Behe, David Berlinski, Jonathan Wells, William Dembski, and, I'm told (I haven't actually counted), over 800 others.

          Intelligent Design
This web site is a great resource for all things "intelligent design." It includes basic information about intelligent design, videos, a list of recommended books, articles about ID, organizations, blogs, etc.
