The Heidelberg Catechism

The Heidelberg Catechism has long been used by Christians in Reformed churches since its introduction in 1563 in the city of Heidelberg, Germany.

The Heidelberg Catechism contains 129 questions and answers and is divided into three parts:

Part 1 is "Of The Misery of Man", and contains questions and answers 3 through 11.

Part 2 is "Of Man's Deliverance", and contains questions and answers 12 through 85.

Part 3 is "Of Thankfulness", and contains questions and answers 86 through 129.

The questions and answers are also organized into 52 Lord's Day lessons. There are one to five questions and answers for each Lord's Day, such that the entire catechism may be covered in one year.

A free online version of the Heidelberg Catechism is available from the Center for Reformed Theology and Apologetics, which includes extensive Scripture references for each question and answer.
